about

"Mabe" was written by me and my dad for our dear friend and legendary jazz pianist Harold Mabern. Mabe was a real mentor and family member to the Coleman family. Harold grew up with my dad in Memphis, TN. They pretty much left around the same time to head to Chicago in 1957 where Harold and George Sr. established themselves, even as young men, as forces to be reckoned with. Over the years, Mabe mentored hundreds of young jazz musicians through the at William Paterson University, as well as musicians on the road and in the clubs. He passed in 2019 and is greatly missed by many.
